About Dual Degree Dilemma

Recently, UGC has approved new guidelines that will entitle Indian higher educational institutions to offer two programs to students that can be pursued simultaneously with each other. While this step is welcomed by many as a lever to improve productivity and employability, it has raised some eyebrows with people asking is it viable for a student to pursue 2 degrees simultaneously while others say that since it is voluntary only the highly motivated ones will take it up. This may seem like a good idea but there are a lot of bottlenecks to consider such as, are our colleges equipped to take on this challenge of making tweaks in their systems and infrastructure for people pursuing dual degrees. From the student end we might see a bit of friction in accepting dual degree programs and whether it will even improve the productivity and employability or will he be left as a jack of 2 degrees and the master of none.
