The University Grants Commission (UGC) plans to introduce a system under where industry experts can teach as full-time or part-time faculty members at central universities.

The plan is in tune with one of the visions of National Education Policy 2020 that promotes industry-academia connect. The experts will be eligible for teaching at universities without a PhD or NET qualification, the UGC has proposed in an official statement. Special positions — professor of practice and associate professor of practice — will be created for the experts.
