MUMBAI: The 'progressive' state of Maharashtra spent a paltry 0.3% of its gross state domestic product (GSDP) towards higher education in 2021-22, a financial audit by the Comptroller and Auditor General ( CAG ) has revealed.
The CAG audit, which was tabled in the state legislative assembly on Friday, observed that "instead of increase in expenditure on higher education, it had shown a declining trend".
While the state's GSDP increased by 34% during 2015-21, expenditure on higher and technical education during the same period went up by a mere 12%.
