NEW DELHI: JNU vice chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar was appointed as the chairperson of the University Grants Commission (UGC) on Friday. According to the ministry of education, Kumar has been appointed as the head of the higher education regulator for a period of five years.

"The Central government has appointed M Jagadesh Kumar as UGC chairman for a period of five years or till he attains the age of 65 years, whichever is the earliest," said a senior MoE official.
